Newfoundland Stamps

Newfoundland did not enter into confederation until 1949. Before that it had its own stamps from 1857–1949.

During that time approximately three hundred different postage stamps were released by the Newfoundland Post Office. They are very popular amongst collectors of British North America stamps and a few stamps and Newfoundland covers are very rare and catch 5 figure sums. Not to worry, most Newfoundland stamps are very affordable.

Here is a great collection of Newfoundland Stamps available from Ebay auction.

The style of stamps is huge - commemorative and airmail stamps, postage due, official seal, revenue, money order, transportation, customs duty, beer, war savings and cigarette stamps.

Newfoundland stamps can still be used legally on mail posted in Canada.

Although many stamps are similar to those used by other colonies, some of the Newfoundland stamps are very unique and prized by philatelists.
